Approved for Tryouts and Official Practices

A coach is not to allow a student to participate in any practice or game without notification of approved participation status (completed registration forms, valid medical screening and pay to play fee payment). 

Is your student approved for tryouts and official practices?  The windows for registration are as follows:

Fall Sports:  Registration will open in July and close in mid-August (depending on the CHSAA calendar and the programming at your school)

Winter Sports:  Registration will open in October and close in mid-November (depending on the CHSAA calendar and the programming at your school)

Spring Sports: Registration will open in February and close in early March (depending on the CHSAA calendar and the programming at your school)

PARENTAL ADVISEMENT—WARNING OF RISK

By its very nature, competitive athletics may put students in situations in which SERIOUS, CATASTROPHIC and perhaps, FATAL ACCIDENTS may occur.

In order to fully registered and your approved for tryouts and official practices, your student will need to submit/complete each of the steps below:

Registration for (Athletics) Programming

A parent or guardian must provide consent to participate through the electronic registration system.  

Denver Public School High Schools can be found at Family ID.org. (Please search for the high school.)

Denver Public School Middle Schools registration will be provided by your Middle School Athletic Director.   

Physical Exam and Medical Clearance to Participate

A completed Physical Examination and Parental Consent Form must be current and on file with the Director of Athletics for your students school.  The form above is highly recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

Denver Health’s School-based Health Centers (SBHC) form a large network of 19 health centers located inside Denver Public School (DPS) campuses that provide medical, mental health, dental and behavioral health care to any DPS student and sibling(s), including children enrolled in DPS-affiliated Early Childhood Education programs at no charge to families. We also offer health education and family planning, as well as insurance enrollment and advising services.  

Pay to Play

The following represents the guidelines to be followed for the Athletics Pay to Play Fee.

Please contact your High Schools Director of Athletics for any interpretation of these guidelines. 

A full price participation fee for High School Athletics will be: $60.00 per sport 

A student that receives free and reduced lunch status will be:  $10.00 per sport.

The full price participation fee for Middle School Athletics will be $25 per sport.

Fees will be collected through the athletics and participation registration system.

Participants who are cut or who quit an activity may contact their Athletic Director for a refund.  Students who participate in an official contest, game, and/or meet, will not be reimbursed for the pay to play fee.  

Hello! We are excited for the Fall 2023 CHSAA High School season!

Tryouts and Official Practices for the CHSAA High School Fall 2023 Sports Season will begin on July 31, 2023 for Boys Golf.  The remaining Fall Sports will begin on Monday August 7, 2023 for Girls Volleyball, Boys Soccer, Gymnastics, Football, Spirit, Field Hockey, Boys Tennis, Spirit, and Softball.  The 23-24 CHSAA Calendar and Fall Sports can be found through this link

In order for your student to participate in tryouts and official practices, your student must have:

Student Without a Program 

If your school of attendance does not offer a program, your student may access the Student Without a Program (SWOP) process and guidelines:

  • A student is defined as SWOP “If a student’s school of attendance or nonpublic home-based educational program does not offer an activity in which the student wishes to participate, the student may participate in the activity at another public school in the student’s school district of attendance or in the student’s school district of residence. 

  • The student and family should select a school of participation where they will compete in the majority of their interested sports.
