The McAuliffe SunDevils Repeat as City Champs

Categories: Prep League

The rivalry between the two McAuliffe schools has officially begun as they squared off twice this season to compete for both the Northeast Divisional Title and one week later, the 2017-18 DPS Prep League Championship. Both teams were undefeated when they battled for the title in the divisional round. The SunDevils from McAuliffe were victorious in the first round when they captured the Divisional Title by a score of 48-17.

Coach Clinkscales and his squad from McAuliffe Manual entered the playoffs as the #2 seed and had 3 impressive victories on the road over Skinner, Denver West and Grant Ranch in order to set up the rematch against the SunDevils to decide the City Championship last Friday. The McAuliffe Manual Bolts came out strong in the championship and were ready to compete with a solid first quarter but could not find much more offense after they lost their best player to an injury in the first half. The SunDevils, led by first year coach, Alyssa Smith, were prepared and ready for the rematch and went on to repeat as City Champs, 54-8.  McAuliffe was led by 3 scorers in double digits, Kilah Freelon (16pts), Jaida Redwine (13pts) and LuLu Fickes (13pts). Congratulations on a great season and thank you to our partner and sponsor, the Denver Nuggets.
