Thanks to the generous financial support of the Colorado Rockies Charity Fund and their expansion of the RBI Baseball/Softball program here in Denver, DPS welcomed a significant growth in baseball and softball programs throughout the district.
The RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) Baseball/Softball Program is a league designed to give school aged children within a metropolitan setting the opportunity to participate in a structured league over the summer months at no cost. This past summer the league featured 40 baseball and softball teams from around the district. Split into three separate divisions, the league is open to students 13-15 (Junior Baseball Division), 16-18 (Senior Baseball Division) and softball players 13-18.
DPS experienced tremendous success during the 2018 season, winning all three divisions. In the Junior Baseball Division Denver South High School took home the title, while in the Senior Baseball Division the Thunderbolts of Manual came out on top. In the Softball Division the Thomas Jefferson Spartans emerged victorious once again defeating Englewood High School in the Final. As a result of their success, all three programs were recognized during an on-field ceremony at Coors Field before a home Rockies game (August 7th). DPS Athletics would like to congratulate all teams involved this summer and we look forward to continued success in 2019.
