Two
new immigration laws went into effect during August of 2006 which impact
vendors who provide services to the District and sole proprietors (individual
18 years and older) that provide services or goods to the District.
- Colorado Revised
Statute 24-76.5-101, Restriction on Public Benefits, requires sole
proprietors (individuals 18 and over) who provide goods or services to
affirm that they are a citizen of the United States or lawfully present in
the United States and produce a valid form of identification to verify
lawful presence in the United States prior to receiving a public benefit
provided under a contract.
- Colorado Revised
Statute 8-17.5-101, Public Contract for Services – Prohibition of
Employment of Illegal Aliens, requires vendors who provide services to
governmental entities to certify that the vendor does not knowingly employ
illegal aliens or contract with companies that knowingly employ illegal
aliens. The vendor also certifies
that it verifies legal status of employees through the Basic Pilot
Employment Verification Program.
Because
of these two new laws the District has forms which vendors are required to
complete prior to the District making payments to the vendor for provided goods
or services.
