The McAuliffe Sundevils played their way through some tough competition during the playoff week in order to get their chance to defend their 2017 City Championship. The Storm from Slavens were focused and determined to get their opportunity to meet up with their cross town rival again in the title game. The two faced off for the 2018 championship at Bruce Randolph High School in front of a large crowd that showed up to cheer on two very talented and skilled teams. McAuliffe quickly struck first off a corner kick in the first three minutes of the game. Midfielder, Kennedy Montoya assisted with the goal that was scored by Megan Ho. The Sundevils held that 1-0 lead for most of the game with some strong defensive play by their goalie, Harper Hageseth, especially as Slavens started to ramp up on offense. With less than 10 minutes to go in the game, Storm midfielder, Milanna Rosazza, got ahead of the pack and shot it over the goalie to tie the game up 1-1, which is how it ended in regulation and after two overtime periods. The Sundevils finally were able to out shoot (PK’s) the Storm 2-1 with goals by Megan Ho and Ellison Mucharsky-Oboyle to repeat as City Champions. Goalie Beth Krankota from Slavens played a terrific defensive game in goal and made some huge saves to keep the Storm in the hunt. Congrats to the Sundevils and their coaches on another great season!!!
