George Washington was able to win six of the twelve events at the 2018 DPS League Swim and Dive Meet on their way to a 106.5 pt win over second place Denver East on Friday at the ThunderDome Pool. Highlighting the meet for the Patriots were Claire Neid (50 Free), Emily Klaassen (100 Butterfly) and Emily Kahn (100 Freestyle) who all took home individual League Titles. George Washington was also able to capture League Titles in the 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay which locked up the team title for the Patriots. Cate Roberts and Lily Shields of Denver East kept the Angels close as they were able to capture both the 100 Backstroke and 100 Breaststroke League Titles respectively.
Finishing in third place overall was Thomas Jefferson, thanks to an incredible effort by Caitlin Beery in the 500 Freestyle and 200 IM. Beery was able to capture the League Title in both events and will look to make the A Final in the 3A State Meet this weekend at VMAC in Thornton.
The most outstanding performance at the Meet undoubtedly was from Lindsay Hammar in 1 Meter Diving. Hammar, a junior from Denver South, set the new Denver Public Schools League Record in the event with a score of 491.20 points. A score good enough to claim the League Title by nearly 100 points over second place.
